Chevrolet Silverado Most Awarded Pickup of 2014

Chevrolet Silverado Most Awarded Pickup of 2014

Elizabeth City, NC – Since its launch in mid-2013, the Chevrolet Silverado has been impressing Elizabeth City residents and the critics alike. So much so, that fans and critics alike have given the 2014 Silverado more awards than any other pickup truck in the industry.

Both light- and heavy-duty models have taken no less than 14 awards for 2014, including the prestigious North American Truck of the Year Award presented by the North American International Auto Show.

More importantly – and possibly even more impressive – is the amount of awards that were awarded to Silverado as a direct result of the interest and admiration of potential Elizabeth City buyers. These include the Edmunds.com Most Popular Vehicle award, which is given to the vehicle in each segment whose research pages are visited the most by Edmunds.com visitors.

Probably most impactful to Performance Chevrolet’s customers, and their wallets, is the various awards given to the Silverado for its low cost of ownership. Kelley Blue Book named the Silverado 1500 in the top ten vehicles in its Best Resale Value Awards across all segments, and the Silverado contributed to Vincentric naming Chevrolet the Best Value Truck Brand in America.

These awards are largely due to Silverado’s innovative technologies tailored to the way customers use full-size pickups, providing the power, efficiency, refinement and dependability they expect from their trucks, such as:

  • EcoTec3 engines that provide class-leading V-8 fuel efficiency and towing capability, without the cost and complexity of turbocharging
  • High-strength steel that makes the frames and cabs stronger and lighter, yet can take the pounding of towing, hauling and off-road operation, year after year
  • The strategic use of aluminum alloys to reduce the weight of engines, front suspension components, hoods and other parts
  • New interiors featuring ample storage, multiple power and USB connections and available high-wear cloth for bench or bucket seats
  • Chevrolet MyLink, which provides powerful connectivity for work or family with simple, intuitive controls.

The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe Offers Drivers More Bang for Their Buck at the Pump

The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe Offers Drivers More Bang for Their Buck at the Pump

Elizabeth City, NC – The Tahoe is EPA-estimated at 16 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway (2WD) – a nearly 10-percent increase in highway mileage over the previous models and 7-percent greater city mileage.

The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe’s standard 5.3L V-8 engine, rated at 355 horsepower (265 kW) and 383 lb.-ft. of torque (519 Nm), features state-of-the-art technologies including direct injection, cylinder deactivation, continuously variable valve timing and an advanced combustion system, all designed to make the most of power, torque and efficiency across a broad range of operating conditions.

Improved engine mounts, electronic throttle control, adaptive exhaust systems, improved aerodynamics and other technologies help the engine operate in four-cylinder mode longer with Active Fuel Management, further increasing efficiency.

“If you thought that SUVs could not save on gas mileage, think again,” said Terrance Whidbee of Performance Chevrolet. “The all-new Tahoe offers large SUV customers the most fuel efficient option in Elizabeth City North Carolina.”

A Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed automatic transmission is paired with the new 5.3L engine and contributes to efficiency with reduced engine speed on the highway. It also features TapShift control, Tow/Haul mode and Auto Grade Braking.

Advanced combustion system

At the heart of the new EcoTec3 engine family is an advanced combustion system that maximizes the potential of the direct fuel injection system, cylinder deactivation, continuously variable valve timing and other technologies to ensure a strong balance between on-demand performance and real-world efficiency.

The ability to more precisely control combustion also enables the new engine to run with a higher compression ratio, one of the best ways to simultaneously increase power and efficiency.

This increased efficiency can now be maintained over a broader range of operating conditions. For example, when towing a trailer on a steep grade on a hot day, the advanced combustion system can reduce the need to trim back spark advance to control detonation, helping maintain efficiency with confident performance.

Direct injection and Active Fuel Management

The 5.3L’s direct fuel injection system precisely meters fuel directly into the cylinders, helping optimize combustion over a broad range of conditions. An all-new cylinder head design supports the fuel system and it’s complemented by a new, sculpted piston head developed to direct the injector’s fuel spray for better mixing and more complete combustion.

To further enhance combustion, the intake and exhaust valve positions have been switched from the previous Small Block engine design, and the spark plug angle has been revised to move the electrode now closer to the center of the chamber to support optimal combustion.

In certain light-load driving conditions, half of the 5.3L’s injectors quit spraying fuel, effectively turning the engine into a V-4 to help increase efficiency. This cylinder deactivation technology, also known as Active Fuel Management, is standard and uses oil pressure, controlled by the powertrain control module, to deactivate the lifters on selected cylinders, closes the valves for those cylinders, and seamlessly reactivates the cylinders when the driver demands greater power. The transition takes less than 20 milliseconds and is virtually imperceptible.

Additional features on the EcoTec3 5.3L include:

·        Weight-saving aluminum engine block

·        Efficiency-enhancing oiling system

·        Oil-jet piston cooling

·        PCV-integrated rocker covers

·        “Saw-cut” exhaust manifolds

·        Cooling system, humidity sensor and more

Small Block legacy

The first Small Block V-8 was introduced in 1955 – a 4.3L V-8 that was an option in the Suburban. It was rated at 145 horsepower and 238 lb.-ft. of torque. Sixty years later, the new EcoTec3 5.3L Small Block produces 245 percent more horsepower and 61 percent more torque from only 23 percent greater engine displacement.

The new 5.3L is built on a foundation of more than 100 million Small Block engines and four generations that came before it. Engines based on the architecture are typically smaller and lighter than competitors’ engines with overhead camshafts, and typically have lower friction – attributes that can enhance efficiency.

Chevrolet Malibu Earns IIHS 2014 Top Safety Pick+ Rating

Chevrolet Malibu Earns IIHS 2014 Top Safety Pick+ Rating

Elizabeth City, NC – The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has named the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu with Forward Collision Alert, which is now available at Performance Chevrolet, a Top Safety Pick+. The distinction requires cars to receive high marks in crash worthiness and to achieve a basic, advanced or superior rating for frontal crash prevention.

“Safety is important to Elizabeth City-area drivers,” said Trey Colbert at Performance Chevrolet. “This designation from IIHS confirms that the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu delivers top safety performance for drivers.”

The crash tests consist of front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. In order to receive a 2014 Top Safety Pick+ status, the 2014 Malibu’s frontal crash protection system had to meet IIHS requirements. The sedan also needed to receive “Good” rating in four of five crash tests. The 2014 Malibu exceeded those requirements, achieving a “Good” rating in all five tests.

The 2014 Malibu’s available Advanced Safety Package, which includes active safety features like Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, and Side Blind Zone Alert, contributed to its Top Safety Pick+ consideration. The Forward Collision Alert system uses camera and radar systems to monitor the distance to the car in front of the Malibu, and will sound an alert if it senses a possible collision. The Advanced Safety Package is available on 2014 Malibu 2LT, 3LT, and LTZ models.

The IIHS simulates certain types of crashes that can occur on the road. They then evaluate the damage that occurred on key areas of the vehicle’s body structure and the risk of occupant injury.

For instance, the Side Impact Crashworthiness Evaluation Crash Test consists of rolling a 3,300-pound sled into the side of a test vehicle at 31.1 mph.

Similarly, in the Moderate Overlap Frontal Crashworthiness Evaluation Crash Test, the test vehicle runs into a wall offset from the vehicle’s centerline.

The Chevrolet Malibu has been a Top Safety Pick for the past four years, but 2014 marks the first time it has been named a Top Safety Pick+. It is the second Chevrolet car to receive the Top Safety Pick+ rating, following the Spark mini car.

While pricing for the 2014 Chevy Malibu has not yet been released, the 2013 Malibu starts at $22, 805. For more information, stop by our Chevrolet Dealer Serving New Bern, NC, or take a look at our 2013 Chevy Malibu Brochure. We can also help you save with our Chevy Malibu Rebates!

2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 Helps Drivers Rule the Road

2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z28

Elizabeth City NC. – Lightweight, nimble and incredibly powerful, the original Z/28 was designed to be king of the road. The 2014 Z/28 carries the same spirit, with every detail engineered specifically to create the ultimate supercar.

Chevrolet engineers and designers put the Z/28 to the test on the most challenging road courses, and were able to strengthen  three key areas during development:

  • Increased grip: The Z/28 is capable of 1.08g in cornering acceleration, due to comprehensive chassis revisions
  • Increased stopping power: The Z/28 features Brembo carbon ceramic brakes capable of 1.5 g in deceleration, and consistent brake feel, lap after lap
  • Reduced curb weight: The naturally aspirated Z/28 weighs 300 pounds less than the supercharged Camaro ZL1 and 55 pounds lighter than the Camaro 1LE – with changes ranging from lightweight wheels to thinner rear-window glass.

To enhance the balance and overall driving feel of the Z/28, 100 percent of the unsprung mass – the collective weight of the vehicle’s suspension, wheels, tires and brake system – differs from the Camaro SS.

“The Camaro Z/28 is a muscle car that offers thrilling performance while meeting the needs of Elizabeth City-area drivers,” said Trey Colbert of Performance Chevrolet. “This car offers a NASCAR-style experience for the everyday driver.”

Here are several design elements that make the Camaro the best performance vehicle for Elizabeth City- area residents.

Exterior Design and Aerodynamics

With the driving goal focused on peak performance capability, nothing on the exterior is without purpose. It shares several racing-inspired, design best practices and lessons learned with the 2014 Corvette Stingray. New and revised exterior content was developed to improve aerodynamics, powertrain cooling and brake-system cooling, helping the Z/28 produce 150 pounds of downforce at 150 mph.

Weight Reduction

Making the most of mass is a key component of the Z/28’s performance capability, contributing to a balanced feel and a high power-to-weight ratio. With a curb weight of 3,820 pounds and 505 horsepower (376 kW), the Z/28 has a power-to-weight ratio of 7.6:1 – or one horsepower for every 7.6 pounds of the car’s mass. That compares favorably to other performance coupes, including Audi RS 5 (8.9:1), BMW M3 (8.9:1) and Porsche 911 Carrera (8.7:1).

The Z/28’s curb weight is approximately 300 pounds less than the ZL1 and about 55 pounds less the 1LE, despite features that add mass, including a dry-sump oiling system with a 10.5-quart reservoir, higher-mass chassis and suspension components such as the support brackets for the front splitter. Engineers offset the mass of those necessary features with a targeted weight-loss program that trimmed the Z/28 to the essential elements of performance.

Powertrain

The Camaro Z/28’s powertrain is rooted in the 7.0L LS7 engine that made the Corvette Z06 an instant performance icon. With an SAE-certified 505 horsepower (376 kW) and 481 lb-ft of torque (652 Nm), it complements the lightweight vehicle components to give the car its 7.6:1 power-to-weight ratio while delivering the power to accelerate strongly out of corners and achieve high straightaway speeds.

A close-ratio six-speed manual transmission is the only transmission offered and power is distributed to the rear wheels via a limited-slip differential featuring a helical gear set, rather than traditional clutch packs. The new design enables the driver to apply more power and get through corners faster, by continuously adjusting the torque bias to maximize available traction.

The differential works in unison with Chevrolet’s proprietary Performance Traction Management system, which allows drivers to adjust the level of throttle and brake intervention to match their capability and driving environment.

Chassis and Suspension

The Z/28’s performance focus is maximum cornering, braking and lap times. Comprehensive chassis and suspension changes, including a lower center of gravity, specific stabilizer bars, higher-rate coil springs and other chassis and suspension features, enable more than 1.05 g in lateral acceleration and 1.5 g in deceleration. Racing-bred dampers, tires and carbon ceramic brakes play important roles in predictable and consistent maximum performance with every lap.

2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is Most Capable, Ever

2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06

Elizabeth City, NC – Chevrolet recently introduced the most track-capable Corvette in the brand’s history – the 2015 Corvette Z06. It stretches the performance envelope for Corvette with unprecedented levels of aerodynamic downforce, at least 625 horsepower from an all-new supercharged engine, and an all-new, high-performance eight-speed automatic transmission – all building on the advanced driver technologies introduced to Elizabeth City-area enthusiasts, on the Corvette Stingray.

“Corvette is notorious for delivering high-level design and technology, as well as first-rate driving experiences,” said Trey Colbert of Performance Chevrolet. “The all-new Z06 expands upon that and brings levels of performance, design and technology I’ve never seen.”

The 2015 model is the first Corvette Z06 to offer Elizabeth City-area drivers a supercharged engine, an automatic transmission and, thanks to a stronger aluminum frame, a removable roof panel. The new, supercharged 6.2L engine is expected to deliver at least 625 horsepower (466 kW), and can be matched with either a seven-speed manual or an all-new, high-performance eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters for manual control. The aluminum frame carries over from the Corvette Stingray and will be used essentially unchanged for the Corvette Racing C7.R.

A track-focused Z07 Performance Package adds unique components for true aerodynamic downforce, Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup tires for enhanced grip, and Brembo carbon ceramic-matrix brake rotors that improve braking performance and contribute to greater handling through reduced unsprung weight. Although development testing is ongoing, the Z07 package has already recorded some of the fastest lap times ever for a Corvette, surpassing even the ZR1.

The heart of the 2015 Corvette Z06 is the all-new LT4 6.2L supercharged V-8 engine, expected to deliver Elizabeth City-area drivers an estimated 625 horsepower (466 kW) and 635 lb-ft of torque (861 Nm). To balance performance and efficiency, the LT4 leverages the same trio of advanced technologies introduced on the Corvette Stingray: Direct injection, Active Fuel Management, or cylinder deactivation, and continuously variable valve timing.

These technologies – combined with the fuel-efficient multi-speed transmissions, aerodynamic design and lightweight construction – help make the new Z06 surprisingly fuel efficient.

To maintain the Z06’s mass and performance targets, the LT4 engine was designed with a more-efficient, more-compact supercharger. Even with its integrated supercharger/intercooler assembly mounted in the valley between the cylinder heads, the engine is only about one inch (25 mm) taller than the Corvette Stingray’s LT1 engine – while delivering nearly 37 percent more horsepower and 40 percent more torque.

The supercharged LT4 is offered with a standard seven-speed manual transmission with Active Rev Match, or an all-new 8L90 eight-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission designed to enhance both performance and efficiency for Elizabeth City-area drivers.

The seven-speed manual incorporates rev-matching technology for upshifts and downshifts. This driver-selectable feature can be easily engaged or disengaged via paddles on the steering wheel. The seven-speed is used with a new dual-mass flywheel and dual-disc clutch, which deliver greater shift quality and feel through lower inertia.

The eight-speed automatic is tuned for world-class shift-response times, and smaller steps between gears keep the LT4 within the sweet spot of the rpm band, making the most of the output of the supercharged engine for exhilarating performance and greater efficiency.

For performance driving, the transmission offers full manual control via steering wheel paddles, and unique algorithms to deliver shift performance that rivals the dual-clutch/semi-automatic transmissions found in many supercars – but with the smoothness and refinement that comes with a conventional automatic fitted with a torque converter.

To deliver the levels of grip needed for the Z06’s performance targets, the Z06 was fitted with larger Michelin tires (Pilot Super Sport tires for the Z06; Sport Cup 2 tires with the Z07 package). The P285/30ZR19 front tires are 1.5 inches wider than the tires on the Stingray, while the 335/25ZR20 rear tires are two inches wider.

To cover the wider tire tread, the fenders of the Z06 were extended by 2.2 inches (56 mm) at the front, and 3.15 inches (80 mm) at the rear. These extensions give the Corvette Z06 a wider, lower appearance further emphasized by a unique rear fascia. It incorporates the same taillamp assemblies as the Stingray, but on the Z06 the taillamps are pushed approximately three inches farther apart, toward to edges of the body.

The tires are mounted on lightweight, spin-cast aluminum wheels that are also wider than the Stingray (19 x 10 inches in front and 20 x 12 inches in the rear). Their open, ultralight design showcases the massive Brembo brakes, which are part of the design aesthetic.

To harness the cornering and braking grip afforded by the larger tires and brakes, the exterior of the Corvette Z06 is tailored to produce aerodynamic downforce that presses the tires to the ground at high speeds.

The exterior design also reflects the increased cooling required for the new Corvette Z06. For example, the mesh pattern on the front fascia was painstakingly designed to deliver the most possible airflow to the supercharger’s intercooler heat exchanger, so much that the mesh grill directs more air into the engine bay than if the grille was removed.

The unique grille also features dedicated brake-cooling intakes and wider grille outlets on the bottom serve as air diffusers. The grille is complemented with a larger hood vent, which vents hot air from the engine compartment and contributes to downforce by allowing air driven through the grille to exit through the hood rather than being forced under the car, which could create lift.

Additional cooling elements include larger front fender vents and unique air blades over the inlets on the rear fenders, which force about 50 percent more air into the cooling ducts for the transmission and differential coolers than those on the Stingray. To cope with the additional airflow, the Z06 has also has larger rear-fascia openings than the Stingray.

Standard front and rear brake-cooling ducts, including Z06-signature rear ducts integrated in front of the rear fender openings, are also part of the functional design changes.

Inside, the Corvette Z06 is distinguished from the Corvette Stingray by unique color schemes that emphasize the driver-focused cockpit, and a unique, flat-bottomed steering wheel.

Like the Stingray, the Z06 will be offered with two seating choices: a GT seat, for all-around comfort, and a Competition Sport seat with more aggressive side bolstering, which provides greater support on the track. The frame structure for both seats is made of magnesium, for greater strength and less weight than comparable steel frames. They’re also more rigid, contributing to the enhanced feeling of support during performance driving.

The Z06 also benefits from interior details designed for high-performance driving, first introduced on the Stingray, including a steel-reinforced grab bar on the center console for the passenger and soft-touch materials on the edge of the console, where the driver naturally braces during high-load cornering.

The performance-supporting elements inside the new Corvette Z06 are complemented by unprecedented attention to detail and build quality. All models feature a fully wrapped interior, where every surface is covered with premium, soft-touch materials. Available materials, depending on the trim level, include Napa leather, aluminum, carbon fiber and micro-suede.

The new Corvette Z06 will be available, in the Elizabeth City area, early 2015. Performance data and pricing will be announced closer to the start of production.

2014 Silverado Light-Duty Trucks Earn 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score

Silverado Sierra 5-Star NHTSA Rated

Elizabeth City, NC – The regular and double cab versions of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, now available at Performance Chevrolet, have received the highest possible 5-star Overall Vehicle Score for safety as part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s New Car Assessment Program.

Joining the previously tested 2014 crew cab models, which also received a 5-star overall score, all cab configurations of the Silverado 1500 series now have the highest possible Overall Vehicle Score. These models are the first pickup trucks to receive the 5-star NHTSA Overall Vehicle Score for safety since the implementation of more rigorous requirements for the 2011 model year.

“Safety is important to Elizabeth City-area Silverado owners,” said Terrance Whidbee of Performance Chevrolet. “This designation by NHTSA confirms that the 2014 Silverado Light-Duty truck delivers top safety performance.”

The Silverado’s level of vehicle performance is complemented by a full array of other advanced safety features to help protect Elizabeth City-area customers, no matter which new Silverado they choose.

Offering fully boxed frames and extensive use of high-strength steel, the Silverado also offers Elizabeth City-area drivers available segment-exclusive safety features such as Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning and Safety Alert Seat. Safety features include:

  • Forward collision alert technology helps prevent frontal crashes by alerting the driver when the truck is closing in on a vehicle ahead too quickly, giving him or her additional time to react and avoid a crash.
  • Lane Departure Warning technology can alert the driver when the truck drifts over a lane line when traveling at least 35 mph.
  • Safety Alert Seat can warn the driver of traffic approaching from the left or right using directional seat vibration pulses. This patented warning approach is tied to all of the on-board crash avoidance systems.
  • High-strength and ultra-high-strength steels are used extensively throughout each truck’s fully boxed frame to help improve performance in crashes.
  • Rear Vision Camera with Dynamic Guidelines allows the driver, when in reverse, to see the area directly behind the vehicle via the eight-inch monitor on the center stack, allowing for easier parking and backing maneuvers.
  • New, standard lap belt pretensioners in the front-seat outboard safety belts.

2014 Chevrolet Spark Named IIHS 2014 Top Safety Pick

2014 Chevy Spark Top Safety Pick

Elizabeth City NC – The 2014 Chevrolet Spark, available at Performance Chevrolet, is a Top Safety Pick in its first year of eligibility, and is the only vehicle in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety minicar segment to earn the rating in 2014 model year testing.

Spark achieved highest possible “good” scores in the IIHS’s moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints tests, and scored an “acceptable” in IIHS’s new small overlap test, designed to replicate what happens when the front corner of a vehicle strikes another vehicle or an object like a tree or a utility pole.

“Safety is a big concern for Elizabeth City-area minicar buyers,” said Mike Lil of Performance Chevrolet. “The 2014 Spark extensively uses high-strength steels and 10 standard air bags, to provide residents with excellent crash safety.”

Minicars present unique challenges when designing for crashworthiness. Spark’s relatively short wheelbase of 93.5 inches required the Spark team to strengthen the car’s front-end structure to better absorb and distribute impact energy around occupants. A cradle extension offers additional support in frontal collisions for Elizabeth City-area drivers.

Lightweight, high-strength steels constitute more than 62 percent of Spark’s under body and 42 percent of its upper body. The car’s rigid door beams and H-shaped structure under the seating area are designed to enhance protection in side impacts, and its high-strength cross members are designed to help manage crush space in side impacts.

Spark’s roof bow and B-pillar also use high-strength steels to help preserve the occupant space in a rollover crash. Likewise, the high-strength rear rail is designed to help protect the fuel tank in side and rear impacts.

Silverado’s Pick-up Box Makes Tough Jobs Easier

2014 Chevrolet Silverado LTZ

Elizabeth City NC – When it comes to pickup trucks, the usability of the back end is just as important, to Elizabeth City-area owners, as the power under the hood. Customer-focused innovations to the cargo box of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado were designed to make it easier to see, secure and access what’s back there.

“Silverado’s pick-up Box is stronger, more durable and versatile enough to help Elizabeth City-area owners get their toughest jobs done,” said Mike Lilly of Performance Chevrolet.”

Elizabeth City-area owners say they most frequently use their trucks for everyday projects. Two out of three use their truck for hauling. Seasoned truck owners want a pickup that makes loading and securing cargo as simple as possible. Making it easier to climb into the truck bed and retrieve items is a bonus.

“For the real truck buyer, they want a pickup that puts up with their abuse without making any compromises from the back end of the truck,” said Mark Williams of PickupTrucks.com. “The whole point of having a pickup is about solving problems, not creating them.”

From design to functionality, the Silverado pickup box is engineered to be the most innovative cargo box in its segment with these features:

  • LED Box Lights – Located in the cargo box, under the side rails, the available lights turn on with the standard overhead box lamp and make it easier to find cargo in the bed, even under a tonneau cover.
  • EZ Lift & Lower Tailgate – An internal torsion bar reduces the effort to raise the tailgate while a rotary damper allows for a controlled and more gradual lowering motion when opening it.
  • CornerStep Bumper – Unique steps incorporated into the corners of the rear bumper are designed to accommodate work boots and can be used with the tailgate up or down.
  • Hand Grip Pockets – Located within the rails, at the rear of the cargo box, they provide easier access into the cargo box and work in tandem with the CornerStep Bumper.
  • Removable Upper Tie-Down Hooks – Allow maximum flexibility to secure cargo of varying shapes and sizes and can be placed in several locations around the cargo box.
