Elizabeth City, NC– More than 821,000 active users of OnStar’s RemoteLink mobile app – including Elizabeth City area drivers – have checked their tire pressure, how much gas is in their tank and unlocked their doors as part of the more than 14 million interactions that have occurred since the auto industry-first mobile app debuted in 2010.

Starting today, RemoteLink will be available to many more Elizabeth City area smartphone users. The mobile app, written using HTML5 technology, is now available in BlackBerry App World™ for BlackBerry® Bold™ 9900 and 9930 users.

The RemoteLink app was conceived as a feature for Chevrolet Volt owners to remotely check the status of their vehicle’s battery life. From there, the idea grew to leverage OnStar’s unique connection to the vehicle, providing drivers with up-to-date vehicle information such as oil level, tire pressure, fuel level and lifetime miles per gallon. The app also offers users remote commands, including remote start, door lock/unlock and horn/light activation.

Last year, OnStar added a navigation enhancement to RemoteLink, providing customers with the ability to search for a destination on their smartphone and send it directly to their vehicle, where they can access the route via OnStar. According to OnStar data, those who use the app most include the Chevrolet Volt, Cruze and Sonic drivers along with Chevrolet and GMC full-size pickups drivers.

For the 2013 model year, the OnStar RemoteLink mobile app will be compatible with 31 General Motors vehicle models, including those coming later this year to Performance Chevrolet.

“The RemoteLink app has been available for iPhone and Android smartphones since the beginning,” said Trey Colbert, Internet Director for Perry Auto Group. “But OnStar heard from many Elizabeth City subscribers asking for a BlackBerry® app.”

HTML5 is an emerging language for structuring and writing content for the web that is gaining momentum in the mobile app space.

The OnStar RemoteLink app is available in BlackBerry App World now. Elizabeth City OnStar subscribers can download the application and visit onstar.com to enable remote commands.

Elizabeth City, NC – Chevrolet and Performance Chevrolet today announced the return of a V-8 powered, rear-wheel-drive performance sedan to the U.S. lineup, the Chevrolet SS. The SS will also be Chevrolet’s next NASCAR Sprint Cup racecar and will debut in its race configuration at the 2013 Daytona 500.

The limited production version of the Chevrolet SS will be a 2014 model and will arrive at Performance Chevrolet in late 2013. It is the first time in 17 years that Chevrolet will offer a rear-wheel-drive sedan for sale in the United States.

“What better way for Chevrolet and Elizabeth City to celebrate a rich history in racing and performance, than with the Chevrolet SS,” said Jimmie Ritter of Performance Chevrolet. ”We know that our race and performance enthusiasts will be thrilled for the arrival of the SS.”

Chevrolet has a long history of using the SS (Super Sport) designation on high-performance models of some of its most enduring nameplates. The SS designation first appeared in 1957 on a Corvette prototype race car built under the guidance of Zora Arkus-Duntov with the plan to enter it in the Le Mans 24-hour race.

The first production vehicle offered with an SS option was the 1961 Impala – 453 were built with the performance upgrades which included a modified chassis and suspension, power brakes, a steering column mounted tachometer and unique wheels and tires. The latest SS model in the Chevrolet lineup is the fifth-generation Camaro, which debuted in 2010.

The Chevrolet SS will be a derivative of the award-winning global rear-wheel-drive architecture that spawns performance vehicles like Chevrolet Camaro and Holden’s upcoming VF Commodore. The much anticipated Australian-built car will benefit from significant technology advances which enhance overall performance.

Chevrolet was America’s best-selling performance car brand in 2011 with Camaro and Corvette accounting for one out of every three sports cars sold in the United States. The addition of the SS should strengthen Chevrolet’s position as a leading performance brand.

Elizabeth City, NC – With the official start of the summer driving season fast approaching, Performance Chevrolet is reminding Elizabeth City residents of some easy ways to maintain their vehicles and drive smarter to help improve fuel economy and save money at the pump.

To demonstrate 10 common mistakes drivers make that affect their fuel economy, Chevrolet and Performance Chevrolet recently drove two identical Chevrolet Cruze LTs, which the EPA estimates get 24 mpg city, and 36 mpg highway. For the route, they drove both cars for 20 minutes, including city and highway driving, as well as a coffee stop.

The results show that sweating the small stuff could save drivers as much as $100 a month in fuel costs. Driver A averaged 37 miles per gallon using efficient driving habits in a properly maintained Cruze. Driving inefficiently and ignoring common maintenance, Driver B managed only 21 miles per gallon. The difference means Driver B would get 250 fewer miles per tank of gas, while Driver A would save $100 a month – or $1,200 a year – assuming 15,000 miles and $4 a gallon for gas:

Driver A

37 mpg

575 mi per tank

$1,621per year

Driver B

21 mpg

325 mi per tank

$2,857 per year

Savings

40 percent

250 mi per tank

$1,236 per year

“Our customers are always looking for ways that they can improve their fuel economy, and the first thing we tell them is that a well-maintained car and efficient driving habits can help you get up to 25 percent more miles per gallon,” said Trey Colbert of Perry Auto Group. “Customers are always shocked to find out that bad driving habits and a poorly maintained car can mean fuel economy 50 percent below their vehicle’s EPA-estimated average.”

Five Driving Tips to Save at the Pump

Here are five things Driver A did to drive more efficiently in her Cruze:

Get out of the drive-through lane. “While (Driver B) waited in the drive-through with her car running, I shut off the engine and went inside for my morning coffee. Idling for 15 minutes burns through an average of a quarter of a gallon – adding another $1 to the cost of your latte.”

Take it easy. “In the city, I accelerated smoothly while (Driver B) demonstrated one of the most common mistakes we see on the road, jumping on the gas at every light, only to hit the brakes as she caught up with the traffic ahead. Such aggressive driving isn’t going to get you home any faster, while driving smoothly can improve your mileage by 20 percent.”

Driving 70, not 80. “On the highway, I drove 70, compared to (Driver B’s) 80. Again, a 10-mph difference likely won’t add much time to your daily commute, but it will save you up to four miles per gallon on the highway.”

Use cruise control. “I tried to maintain a constant speed during our drive, while (Driver B’s) fluctuated with traffic. Try using cruise control when possible, and maintaining a constant speed over time, which is much more efficient than speeding up and slowing down over and over again.”

Roll up the windows. “One of the most common questions we get is ‘is it better to drive with the A/C on, or off?’ At slower speeds, turning off the air conditioning can save you a little, but I always roll up the windows on the highway. (Driver B) was driving with her windows down, and the increased air pressure acted like a parachute trying to slow her down – consuming much more energy than air conditioning ever will.”

Five Vehicle Mistakes That Hurt MPG:

Here are things that contributed to Driver B’s poor fuel economy:

Low tire pressure. “All four tires on my car were five pounds under their recommended air pressure. That’s not enough to change how the Cruze drives, but it does make the engine work much harder to turn the wheels. Check your tires at least once a month, as a tire that is 10 pounds under pressure can cut your fuel efficiency by more than 3 percent.”

Using roof ornaments. “To show support for my favorite sports team, I put up window flags on my Cruze for every home game. But when the team is on the road, the flags will come down. At highway speeds, up to a third of your fuel is used to overcome wind resistance, so even small changes to your vehicle’s aerodynamics will have a big impact on fuel economy. “

Carrying extra junk in the trunk. “I had six bags of water-softener salt I bought on sale at the hardware store in the trunk. But according to EPA estimates, every 100 pounds of weight can reduce fuel economy by 2 percent. While I saved at the checkout, that 240 pounds of salt added almost 5 percent to my fuel costs for the trip.”

Ignoring the “check engine” light. “I called OnStar to run a remote diagnostics check on my Cruze, because the check engine light was on. Turns out the light was on because the gas cap was loose. More serious engine problems can cut your fuel economy by up to 40 percent.”

Not bundling errands. “An engine at operating temperature is up to 50 percent more efficient than a cold engine. So when possible, it’s much better to run five errands in an afternoon than running one errand every day of the week.

Regular Vehicle Maintenance Tips That Can Save Money in the Long-run:

Make your tires last. Properly inflated tires will improve your fuel economy, and they will last longer. Also rotate tires at manufacturer-recommended intervals.

Use the recommended grade of motor oil. Motor oil that says “Energy Conserving” on the performance symbol of the American Petroleum Institute contains friction-reducing additives that can improve fuel economy.

Check your owner’s manual for the most effective octane level for your car. For most cars, the recommended gasoline is regular octane. In most cases, using a higher-than-recommended octane gas offers no benefit – and costs more.

Batteries can make or break you. Check battery life, replace or charge your current battery and make sure battery cables are free of corrosion. Many breakdowns occur because batteries aren’t delivering full cranking power.

Get regular engine tune-ups and car maintenance checks. According to the EPA, tune-ups improve performance as well as gas mileage. Check your owner’s manual for recommended maintenance schedules and follow them. This will avoid fuel economy problems due to worn spark plugs, dragging brakes, low transmission fluid, or the transmission failing to go into high gear.

Be skeptical about any gizmo that promises to improve your gas mileage. The EPA has tested supposed gas-saving devices – including “mixture enhancers” and fuel line magnets – and found that very few provided any fuel economy benefits. The devices that did work provided only a slight improvement in gas mileage. In fact, some products may damage your car’s engine or cause a substantial increase in exhaust emissions. For a full list of tested products, visit www.epa.gov/otaq/consumer/reports.htm.

Elizabeth City, NC– Elizabeth City mothers spend a great deal of time in the car, shuttling children, running errands and commuting. Nine out of 10 Moms drive… somewhere.

A national online survey conducted by Harris Interactive® for General Motors found that one in three Moms with mess makers, er, kids under 18, would like their car washed and cleaned as a Mother’s Day gift.

More than one in five (21 percent) would like a family road trip for Mother’s Day. The survey didn’t indicate whether Mom wanted to do the driving.

If neither of those survey responses resonates, Performance Chevrolet offers these budget-friendly ideas for your mother’s car on Mother’s Day

Give her some gas. Just one in 10 Moms mentioned this in the survey, but a fill-up could be a nice surprise anyway – one less thing for her to do.

A little fresh air. After the car wash and vacuuming, spend an extra $3 or so for an air freshener. But choose wisely on the scent.

Some peace of mind. Another gift for Mom’s vehicle is OnStar FMV, the aftermarket replacement mirror packed with OnStar’s core safety, security and connectivity services like Turn-by-Turn directions. The hardware and installation is now just $99.99 (through June 16) and subscription plans cost $199 per year for the base package or $299 per year for the premium package. FMV is compatible with more than 100 million vehicles on the road.

And don’t forget a card. Leave it on the front seat of her car. And if it’s not a singing card, you can surprise Mom by downloading some of her favorite music or making a custom CD to help her enjoy the drive.

Performance Chevrolet is proud to serve the auto dealership needs of cities such as Elizabeth City, Edenton, Hertford, Currituck, Nags Head, Kitty Hawk, Moyock, South Mills, Camden, Williamston, Ahoskie, Chesapeake, Columbia, Shiloh, Virginia Beach, Norfolk and counties that include Dare, Chowan, Perquimans and Pasquotank in North Carolina and Virginia.
We wanted to share this great article from Chevrolet in the News about the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco and the Chevrolet Volt.

While many auto brands brag about their fuel-efficient new products, only one managed to have two separate vehicles named to the KBB.com 10 Best Green Cars of 2012 roster: Chevrolet. Both the Chevy Volt and the 2013 Chevy Malibu Eco earned their way onto the list, thanks to their uncompromising approach to delivering high fuel-economy scores and customer-satisfying ownership experiences.

Both the Chevy Volt and the 2013 Chevy Malibu Eco earned their way onto the list, thanks to their uncompromising approach to delivering high fuel-economy scores and customer-satisfying ownership experiences.

The Volt, of course, can provide more than 35 miles of all-electric, zero-emissions driving on a single charge, and it does so while posting an EPA line of 95 MPGe city/93 MPGe highway/94 MPGe combined. However, if its battery ever runs low, a super-efficient gas-powered I4 engine seamlessly kicks into operation to deliver hundreds of more miles of driving ability—while still achieving EPA marks of 40 mpg city/35 mpg highway/37 mpg combined.

As explained by the experts at KBB.com, “With its small gasoline engine on standby to generate electricity should the batteries run out of juice, the Volt conquers ‘range anxiety’ and makes for a car that can be filled with gas at a pump and electricity from an outlet. Sleek looks inside and out, plus room for four passengers and cargo complete the package.”

The Malibu Eco also takes the high-tech route to better gas mileage, courtesy of eAssist. This technology stores up electricity via the car’s regenerative braking system, then uses it to help provide added power during certain driving scenarios. The result is better fuel-economy than a standard gas engine, but at a lower cost than a full hybrid, since the Malibu Eco “seemingly bridges the efficiency gap between the two categories.” A standard start/stop system, which can cut off the flow of fuel when the vehicle would otherwise be idling, also helps matters. The bottom line: EPA ratings of 25 mpg city/37 mpg highway/29 mpg combined.

Elizabeth City, NC – In today’s automotive marketplace, drivers looking for a particularly comfortable new vehicle don’t have to spend a particularly large sum of money, and they don’t have to sacrifice fuel economy, either. They do, however, need to visit their local Chevy dealerships, since the Bowtie brand recently put two vehicles—the Chevrolet Cruze and the new 2013 Chevy Malibu—on KBB.com’s honor roll of “10 Most Comfortable Cars under $30,000.”

The Cruze earned its prize by “including an acoustic-laminated windshield, triple-layered door seals and wheel-well liners for a quiet cabin. And supportive front seats matched with perhaps the smoothest highway ride in the segment. For compact comfort, the Chevy Cruze is a big winner.”

Further enhancing the car’s comfort are features like hydraulic ride bushings and an isolated engine cradle, both of which help reduce noise, vibration and harshness in the Cruze’s cabin.

Boasting an MSRP that starts at $16,800, the Cruze also is a big winner in the EPA’s fuel-economy ratings. In fact, the Cruze Eco—priced from $19,325—leads its segment in highway fuel efficiency and showcases overall marks of up to 28 mpg city/42 mpg highway/33 mpg combined.

The redesigned 2013 Malibu stood out for KBB.com as a vehicle that offered “the practicality and affordability of a typical midsize sedan along with a roomy, upscale cockpit and a suspension system capable of taming America’s endless supply of dilapidated asphalt.” Notable as well: Chevy claims the much-improved Malibu will be the quietest car the brand has ever sold, thanks to extensive sound-reduction measures and world-class aerodynamics.

Chevy dealers are currently offering the new Malibu in its own 37-mpg Eco model, with an MSRP of $25,235, while the rest of the lineup scheduled to start reaching dealers later this year.

The Traverse offers better safety ratings, lower insurance premium costs, higher fuel economy, better overall reliability and a lower suggested retail price for Elizabeth City, NC drivers compared to other vehicles in the same category, according to USAA, which provides insurance, banking, investment and retirement products and services to 9 million members of the U.S. military and their families.

“The Chevy Traverse offers space for up to eight people, with the utility, flexibility, fuel economy, and safety features for families,” said Trey Colbert, Internet Director of Performance Chevrolet. “It has become tremendously popular among Elizabeth City consumers who are looking for both efficiency and style.”

Nearly 80 cars, trucks and minivans are currently designated as USAA Preferred vehicles. The Best Value list represents the vehicles at the top of each category.

The Traverse is General Motors’ best-selling crossover and is offered in LS, LT and LTZ models (with two LT trim levels: 1LT and 2LT), in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations.

Chevrolet is saluting the nation’s active duty and retired service members this month by providing an exclusive “Honor” badge to customers who buy an eligible vehicle through the General Motors Military Discount program. The brand also will donate $100 to Cell Phone for Soldiers for each eligible vehicle sold.

The GM Military Discount is also available to active, reserve and retired members and spouses of the U.S. Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines, National Guard and Coast Guard. The discount, ranging from $400 to $4,000, is available on most Chevrolet cars, trucks and crossovers, depending on the model and options selected. The discount can be combined with most current incentives.

The GM Military Discount offers an additional $750 discount on selected Chevrolet, Buick and GMC vehicles to eligible members of USAA.
Elizabeth City, NC– The Chevrolet Avalanche, which won Elizabeth City, NC buyers with trendsetting design and unique features – and helped launch the boom in crew cab pickups – celebrates its final year in production with the 2013 Black Diamond Avalanche.

Black Diamond Avalanches, available at Performance Chevrolet, will feature body-colored bed surrounds, a unique badge on the sail panel, additional features on LS and LT models, and lower prices across the lineup.

“Since its introduction in 2001, more than 580,000 Avalanches have been sold, and we can attest that there are many Avalanche enthusiasts among our customers,” said Trey Colbert, Internet Director of Performance Chevrolet. “We’re happy to say ‘Thank you’ to these customers with Chevy by offering the Black Diamond Avalanche.”

For 2013, a rear camera, rear park assist, power adjustable pedals, fog lamps and remote start will be added as standard equipment on LS models, while LT models have added a standard rear camera. Base prices have been reduced $2,500 (after equipment adjustments) with the 2WD Avalanche LS now starting at $35,980, plus $995 dealer freight charge.

Avalanche reshaped the pickup market

When introduced for the 2002 model year, Avalanche offered unique styling and innovative features like a midgate that extended the bed into the cab. Perhaps more important, its overall design proved to be one of those rare ideas that change a segment forever – a light-duty pickup with comfortable accommodations for five people.

This new concept of a well-equipped light-duty pickup that could tow, haul, and carry the family attracted enough interest to generate 93,482 sales in 2003, its third full year of production. Recognizing the appeal of the Avalanche, Chevrolet and other truck makers began developing light-duty crew cab pickups. By 2011, crew cabs accounted for more than 65 percent of light-duty pickup sales, and helped transform the pickup from a workhorse into a true multipurpose family vehicle.

Through it all, Avalanche retained a core of passionate fans who loved its style, comfort, and versatility. Avalanche was named 2002 Motor Trend Truck of the Year upon its introduction, and 2007 Truck of the Year by the Automotive Journalists Association of Canada. Avalanche also has been top choice in a number of consumer publications.

Avalanche at a glance

The Chevrolet Avalanche is one of the industry’s more-flexible utility vehicles, combining the passenger-comfort attributes of a SUV with the cargo capability of a truck, thanks to the exclusive Midgate. It opens to extend the cargo-area from 5-foot-3-inch-long (1.6 m) length to 8 feet 2 inches (2.5 m). It is available in LS, LT and LTZ models, with 2WD and 4WD.

Storage compartments alongside the cargo box provide ample and lockable storage with pluggable drains that can be filled with ice and used as coolers.

The Avalanche is based on GM’s full-size SUV platform, offering a maximum towing capacity of 8,100 pounds (3,674 kg). It is powered by an efficient combination that includes the Vortec 5.3L V-8 with cylinder-deactivating Active Fuel Management technology and a fuel-saving Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed automatic.

Avalanche also delivers useful technology and comprehensive safety features, including Bluetooth wireless phone connectivity with specific steering wheel controls, an available rear camera system, head curtain side-impact air bags and StabiliTrak electronic stability control. Avalanche offers an integrated brake controller that works with the ABS system to provide immediate and measured brake force signaling to electric-controlled trailer brake systems; there is no requirement for external and/or aftermarket brake control systems.

Avalanche milestones

· The Avalanche was introduced at the 2000 North American International Auto Show in Detroit as a concept and was described as a no- compromise Chevy Truck with a unique combination of configurable passenger and cargo space. The production Avalanche was positioned as an Ultimate Utility Vehicle (UUV) when it went on sale in 2001 as a 2002 model

· A special Avalanche was equipped to protect and transport the Olympic Flame during the Torch Relay prior to the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City; the relay covered more than 13,500 miles and passed through 46 states on its way to the Olympic Stadium for the Opening Ceremony on Feb. 8, 2002

· In addition to receiving Motor Trend’s Truck of the Year for 2002, the Avalanche received the Design and Engineering award from Popular Mechanics. Both recognized the vehicle’s revolutionary innovation

· Chevrolet teamed up with outdoor outfitter North Face and offered a special edition Avalanche in 2002 that was used to transport a team of kayakers through the rugged terrain of the Himalayas to the Tsangpo Gorge in Tibet, where they successfully accomplished first descent of the most-feared whitewater on the planet

· In 2006, Chevrolet introduced an all-new Avalanche with a fully boxed frame and redesigned suspension to deliver more refined ride and handling; a new Z71 off-road package was introduced and featured special off-road tires, unique grille and fascia, an integrated front bumper winch and oversize tow hooks

· A 2007 Avalanche was presented to the 2006 Major League Baseball All-Star Game MVP Michael Young of the Texas Rangers

Elizabeth City, NC, – Performance Chevrolet announced today its continued support of Elizabeth City, NC, youth baseball and baseball fans through Chevrolet’s “Diamonds & Dreams” program. Performance Chevrolet encourages residents to register online at www.chevybaseball.com for a chance to win one of 12 field makeovers and the Grand Prize of an all-new 2013 Chevrolet Malibu.

Starting April 19, participants can enter through www.chevybaseball.com for a chance to win a refurbished baseball field for their community or another community they feel is deserving. One winner will be chosen each week for up to 12 weeks through July 22.

“Every young person wants and deserves a ‘dream’ baseball diamond and we offer them a chance to get one,” said Trey Colbert, Internet Director of Performance Chevrolet.

In its third year, “Diamonds & Dreams” has already awarded 25 youth field makeovers across the country.

“From the back yards to the big leagues, Chevrolet is committed to community and youth baseball and giving back to where our customers live, work and play,” said Phil Caruso, Chevrolet National Promotions Manager.

Renovations of the 12 field makeovers will be administered through Ripken Design, a division of Ripken Baseball, the company owned and operated by National Baseball Hall of Famer Cal Ripken, Jr. and 12-year Major League Baseball veteran Bill Ripken.

“I have been working with Chevy for about two decades and it is a relationship that I value a great deal, said Cal Ripken. “Together we are positively impacting kids through baseball at the grassroots level and giving them safe places to play. It is a very gratifying part of what we do and I appreciate Chevrolet making us a part of this terrific effort.”

The Official Lawn Care Company of Major League Baseball™, Scotts, will continue to partner with Chevrolet and lend its support on multiple field refurbishments. Scotts believes that it is important to offer youth a safe, reliable field and playing area. In addition to helping reduce injuries, a strong foundation of thick and lush grass helps to create a beautiful outdoor environment that encourages children to spend time outdoors.

As the Official Vehicle of Major League Baseball™, Chevrolet has also expanded its support of MLB to youth baseball players in communities across the country through the Chevrolet Youth Baseball (CYB) program. In its seventh year, CYB has helped raise more than $13 million to aid local teams, affecting more than 2.7 million young people in communities across the country. This year, about 1,600 Chevrolet dealers are participating.

For more information about Chevrolet baseball, the “Diamonds & Dreams” program and a chance to win, please visit www.chevybaseball.com.

*No purchase necessary, ends July 22, 2012. Open to legal residents of the 50 U.S. and District of Columbia, 18 or older. Void where prohibited. Odds of winning a prize will depend on the number of eligible entries received for the applicable drawing.
