Elizabeth City,NC., Feb. 22, 2012 – While on our daily commute, most of us encounter at least one nasty pothole, especially those who have to drive down Riverside road. Aside from the initial jolt from hitting a pothole or the rumbling of driving over a “washboard” patch, the damage to your vehicle can really add up if you don’t properly maintain it. Potholes can even be deadly for motorcyclist and drivers traveling at excessive speeds. At Performance Chevrolet, we want to give you some advice for handling potholes and what you can do for you vehicle after hitting them to keep your vehicle in safe driving conditions.

The first question we often hear is “What is the best way to deal with a pothole?” The answer is to avoid it completely. If you know there’s a big pothole on your daily commute, try finding an alternative route. We know that is easier said than done, but it is the only way to guarantee your vehicle be free of damage. If you have to drive over a pothole, the best way to go about it is to accelerate over it so the weight of the car is shifted to the rear. By hitting the breaks the entire weight of the car is shifted to the front and can result in more damage. Don’t get us wrong… We aren’t condoning speeding, but physics play a major role in your vehicle condition. By accelerating instead of breaking, you greatly reduce the chance of the damage being catastrophic.

Another safety tip to keep your vehicle in shape on rough roads is to be aware of pooled water on the road. Not only can pooled water cause a potential hydroplaning situation, but they also can conceal large and dangerous potholes.

Hitting potholes can potentially pop one of your tires and can also affect your vehicles alignment over time. Each time you run over a pothole in your vehicle, the wheels become less aligned. This can cause uneven wear on your tires and cost you extra money in tire replacements and repairs. If you find yourself running over potholes frequently, bring it in to the Performance Chevrolet Certified Service Center for a free vehicle inspection by one of our ASE certified technicians. They will check your alignment and check your tires for signs of damage and premature wear.

Chevrolet continued its global rollout of the all-new 2013 Malibu midsize sedan with its most fuel-efficient Malibu ever – the Malibu Eco. The Malibu Eco is the first model of the all-new 2013 Malibu lineup to reach dealer showrooms in North America, bringing with it:

• A sporty exterior shaped to save fuel.
• An all-new interior with more room, comfort and premium materials.
• Sound-reducing and sound-absorbing components to make it the quietest Chevrolet in history.
• All-new Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system that enhances customer connectivity.
• All-new ride-and-handling package.
• Engineering to meet top safety results around the world.

The heart of the Malibu Eco is its segment-exclusive, fuel-saving eAssist™ technology, which provides GM-estimated 25 mpg city and 37 mpg highway fuel economy. EAssist™ technology combines start-stop technology with regenerative braking and a lightweight lithium-ion battery to provide an electric boost in certain conditions, improving fuel economy by 12 percent over today’s four-cylinder engine. The Malibu Eco delivers better fuel economy than any non-hybrid midsize sedan currently available. An all-new Ecotec 2.5L engine debuts in the Malibu later this summer, followed by an all-new Ecotec 2.0L turbo engine. The new Malibu Eco is priced less than a full hybrid vehicle with a suggested retail price of $25,995, including a $760 destination charge. The 2013 Malibu is Chevrolet’s first global midsize sedan and will be sold in nearly 100 countries on six continents.

The 2013 Chevrolet Spark:

Arriving fashionably on time on the American scene in the summer of 2012. This stylish little guy’s first-gen has been bobbing and weaving through European streets for a year now. Designed to fit your city and your life, the compact Spark slides easily into those tight parking spots that other cars don’t dare dream about. No more driving in three-block circles for hours ruing the moment you decided not to take the bus. Much more time spent exploring your city.

Spark is the city driving solution. Bringing the same amount of small to the table as those other guys at a price that lets you keep your apartment. Affordability meets swagger. Spark keeps your personal style in mind with a plethora of available colors ranging from fun to funky. This city car makes parallel parking a nonissue, lets you keep your flair and turns the city into an adventure. So get lost and see what you can find.

The Stuff:

Affordable doesn’t mean boring. Spark may have a starting price lower than a limbo stick after five rounds, that does not mean it shouldn’t come with all the tech and gadgets that make buying a new ride so euphoric. Of course you expect alloy wheels, power windows and air conditioning. And you’ll get it, standard on any model. But what about some stuff you can brag about? Well, Spark 1LT and 2LT were designed to include all that fun stuff. We’re talking Bluetooth® for compatible devices3, we’re talking unlocking with the OnStar® RemoteLink™ app4, we’re talking plugging your portable device into the USB port5 and rocking out through the speakers. That’s if you don’t already have your 7-inch diagonal touch-screen programmed to blast tunes from the three-month trial of SiriusXM Satellite Radio6.

Still want more? Of course you do, it’s why we love you. The Spark 2LT includes: an enhanced exterior appearance with front and rear sport fascias, a unique front upper and lower grille, roof rails, chrome liftgate handle, chrome exhaust outlet and a tissue to wipe away the drool.

The Stares:

Life is too short and too long not to have fun. Colors that match your mood or your shoes.Let’s get to the good stuff. Of course cost and handling make the top of the list but we all know that’s not what you’ll be thinking about when you see your reflection coasting past one of those glass buildings downtown. No, the only thing that matters then is style. Along with its funky exterior design, Spark is available with unique alloy wheels, stylish foglamps and in eight playful colors. There are the standard hues like Silver Ice Metallic, Denim, Salsa and Summit White. But for those people who are anything but standard, Spark can be styled in more adventurous shades like Lemonade, Techno Pink and Jalapeño, all with interior accents to match. You define you. So you define Spark.

Exterior:

Playing it safe

Spark is down to ride out and find adventure but never forgets that the safety of you and your friends is important. It is a Chevrolet, after all. That’s why every Spark comes with ten standard air bags7, Hill Start Assist and OnStar8 standard for six months, no matter the model.

Once again we know you want more. How do we know that? Because we wanted more too -much more- and we put it all in there. Safety features like the StabiliTrak Stability Control System with Brake Assist to help out when the roads aren’t kind, driver and front passenger Dual Safety Belt Pretensioners to keep you in place, and Traction Control to help you get a grip…on the road. We did all this for you because if you have read this far down the page that makes us besties, FFFs (Facebook friends forever) and Spark loves its friends.

“Although Chevrolet vehicles are engineered with efficient, fuel-saving technologies, it still takes maintenance to ensure your vehicle performs as efficiently as it did when it left the factory,” said Roger Clark, General Motors Energy Center senior manager. “Drivers can improve their own fuel economy for free by making some very minor behavior changes.”

Here are a dozen tips for fuel savings from Chevrolet Certified Service:

Tune Up: A properly tuned engine can improve fuel economy about 4 percent, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Fixing a serious issue – such as faulty oxygen sensor – can boost mileage up to 40 percent. And don’t ignore a service-engine-soon light.

Pump Up: Properly inflated tires improve gas mileage by up to 3.3 percent. Properly inflated tires are safer and last longer. Under-inflated tires can lower fuel economy by 0.3 percent for every one pound-per-square-inch drop in the pressure of all four tires. Do not rely solely on the tire pressure monitoring system to detect an under-inflated tire – it’s best to check tires with a good gauge once a month and check your owner’s manual for more information.

Unpack: Carrying unneeded cargo makes your vehicle work harder and use more gas. The EPA says an extra 100 pounds reduces fuel economy up to 2 percent – even more in smaller vehicles. A loaded roof rack cuts fuel economy by up to 5 percent. About a quarter of each gallon of gas goes toward overcoming wind resistance, so when cargo rides on top of the vehicle, fuel economy is reduced. Even empty ski/snowboard and bike racks can affect aerodynamics, so remove them when the seasons are over.

Slow Down: While each vehicle reaches its optimal fuel economy at a different speed (or range of speeds), gas mileage usually decreases rapidly at speeds above 60 mph, according to the EPA. Every 5 mph over 60 mph is like adding an additional 24 cents per gallon for gas.

Avoid Idling: A car gets 0 mpg when the engine is idling: While it does take a small amount of fuel to restart a vehicle, 15 minutes in the drive-through can burn through a quarter of a gallon of fuel. So that dollar menu is more like a $2 menu.

Chill Out: Speeding, rapid acceleration and braking can lower gas mileage by 33 percent on the highway and 5 percent in city driving.

Put it in Overdrive: Using an overdrive gear on the highway reduces engine speed, saving both fuel and engine wear.

Roll ‘Em Down Around Town: Air conditioning reduces fuel efficiency by up to 10 percent. Avoid using the air conditioner by rolling down the windows at speeds below 40 mph. At speeds above 45 mph, wind drag uses more fuel than running the A/C.

Unclog: It’s hard to run if you can’t breathe. Older cars without fuel injection and computer-controlled technology can lose 14 percent of their fuel economy because of a dirt-clogged air filter, which also can damage the engine. A clean air filter improves acceleration. An air filter full of dirt makes the engine work harder and can let in impurities that damage the engine. Replacing a severely plugged filter improves fuel economy by up to 14 percent, according to the EPA. In modern cars, replacing a dirty or clogged air filter improves acceleration performance.

Use the Right Oil: Because oil reduces engine friction and friction makes an engine work harder, using the manufacturer’s recommended grade of oil improves fuel economy by 1 percent to 2 percent. Plan your Trips: Taking your kids to soccer or swim classes? Grocery shopping? Plan routes and timing to avoid heavy periods of traffic congestion.

Cap Check: Loose or poorly fitting gas gaps not only can trigger a “check engine light” warning, they send 147 million gallons of gasoline into the air as vapor every year, according to a report by the Discovery Channel. A missing or poorly fitting cap can reduce fuel economy by 1 to 2 percent. Want more tips? Check with your local Chevrolet Certified Service technician.

About Chevrolet: Founded in Detroit in 1911, Chevrolet celebrates its centennial as a global automotive brand with annual sales of about 4.25 million vehicles in more than 120 countries. Chevrolet provides consumers with fuel-efficient, safe and reliable vehicles that deliver high quality, expressive design, spirited performance and value. The Chevrolet portfolio includes iconic performance cars such as Corvette and Camaro; dependable, long-lasting pickups and SUVs such as Silverado and Suburban; and award-winning passenger cars and crossovers such as Spark, Cruze, Malibu, Equinox and Traverse. Chevrolet also offers “gas-friendly to gas-free” solutions including Cruze Eco and Volt. Cruze Eco offers 42 mpg highway while Volt offers 35 miles of electric, gasoline-free driving and an additional 344 miles of extended range.
We’ve met the 2012 Chevy Sonic before. Now that the Sonic is starting to roll into dealers, it’s time to find out if Chevy can deliver what neuvo compact buyers are after: high MPGs, a modicum of utility and a cabin that’s more inviting than a GitMo cell. But naturally, we want more.

Nearly everything new in the B-segment excels at each of those marks and some even provide an entertaining steer in the process. And even though Chevy’s marketeers are hoping to offload the Sonic on teens and twenty-somethings – offering the connectivity they crave with the safety and price point their parents demand – the Sonic has to appeal to a broader swath of buyers looking for a budget runabout.

And for the first time ever, Chevy has succeeded. We’re just as shocked as you.

On the subject of styling, “Much of the compact’s personality comes from its angular visage and massive, scowling quad headlamps, which give the impression that the Sonic is either deep in furious thought or on the verge of eating your cat. It’s kind of like a less cuddly version of ALF.” That sums it up well.

The fascia hangs a little low, like someone put an overpowered space heater in front of a Malibu, but the integration of the bow tie and the quartet of exposed headlamps are both attractive and aggressive, although cleaning bug guts out of the lights stands to be a chore. Overall, it’s a fresh exterior from a youthful band of Korean designers, and even the sedan variant – something that rarely makes an attractive transition in this segment – looks clean and tailored, with an arching, long piece of rear glass that does wonders for lighting the interior.

Ah, the interior. Are you ready for this? It’s nice. Not just inhabitable, but a truly enjoyable place to spend time. The plastics, while hardly lux-grade, aren’t pulled from a Playschool big wheeler, either. The designers spent considerable time and effort trying a variety of grains and materials, and the fruits of their labors are used to excellent effect. In particular, the dash and center stack look (if not feel) a grade above what’s commonplace in the competition, and with copious cubbies abound, you’re never wanting for a place to stash an oversized water bottle (massive door pockets), parking tickets (two slots flanking the stereo) or an iPod/smartphone (an alternate glove box mounted high on the dash complete with an indentation to run the cable out the bottom).

Housed inside that second box is both a USB and an auxiliary input, an odd redundancy considering there’s already one mounted on the faceplate of the stereo. But we’re not complaining. The standard sound system is a six-speaker setup with AM/FM, CD and MP3 playback, while the optional Connectivity Plus Cruise Pack includes the aforementioned USB and aux inputs, along with Bluetooth streaming, phone connectivity and – as its name suggests – cruise control. We tested the system with both an iPhone and Android device, and selection and playback was simple, if frill-free, through the small LCD panel and accompanying knobs.

The controls, including the redundant stereo buttons on the steering wheel, are intuitive and simplistic, as is the traction control and door locks, both controlled by buttons mounted on the transmission tunnel.

But the high point of the interior is the gauge cluster, inspired by the now comically common motorcycle display – predictable, considering everyone on the Korean design team rides bikes. Unlike other instrument panels, the LCD display doesn’t wash out in direct sunlight, the tach is the size of a Big Gulp lid and all the pertinent information – speed, MPGs, trip, etc. – are all cleanly laid out and easily viewed. It’s just one in a variety of elements that proves GM is finally sweating the small stuff inside and taking advantage of a design department that’s nothing if not diverse. The Sonic’s lead designer, Katherine Sirvio, is proud to point out that the team working on the interior wasn’t comprised of an uninspired band of industrial designers. Among the crew is a fine arts major, a graphic designer, an interior planner, a lighting guy, one designer from the footwear industry and another that specialized in jewelry design. It shows, particularly with the tasteful – yes, tasteful – use of chrome and the blue backlighting that shines through the stereo controls. Even the leatherette and accent stitching on our LTZ tester (in place of black-on-black or black-on-grey cloth) came across as more upmarket than the material used in higher-priced compacts.

On the topic of trim, three models are for the taking – LS ($14,495 sedan/$15,395 hatch), LT ($15,295 sedan/$16.495 hatch) and LTZ ($17,295 sedan/$17,995 hatch) – with the LS and LT coming standard with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder mated to either a six-speed automatic or five-speed manual. Swilling regular unleaded fuel, the 1.8 returns a respectable – if not segment-busting – 26/35 mpg with the manual or 25/35 with the automatic, and puts out 138 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque. We spent time in what’s sure to be the Sonic’s volume model – an LT sedan equipped with the six-speed auto and 1.8-liter – and found it more than adequate, even with three lanky journalists and their luggage in tow. But as you’d expect, we spent the majority of our drive behind the wheel of a kitted out LTZ with the turbocharged 1.4-liter and standard six-speed manual. While the turbo’d four-cylinder puts out the same amount of horsepower as the 1.8 (138 hp at 4,900 rpm), it’s the torque that matters. One-hundred and forty-eight pound-feet comes on at 1,850 rpm and plateaus around 5,000 revs as the engine starts outrunning the turbo. As such, there’s practically no motivation above 5,500 rpm as the DOHC four begins losing its breath. Just shift. That said, it’s good to scoot the 2,684-pound hatch to 60 mph in the low nine-second range and fuel economy hits the magic 40 mpg figure on the highway, with the city cycle coming in at 29 mpg. Commendable considering you don’t have to top up the tank with anything over 87 octane.

The 10 standard airbags put it in contention to be one of the safest compacts on the market, as does the Gamma platform that’s made up of 60% high strength steel and set to underpin a range of new Chevys and Opels, including a CUV variant to take on the oft-rumored Ford Fiesta-based crossover. But that ultra-rigid chassis pays its way not just in safety, but in compliance and comfort.

For the first time in the U.S., the compact class isn’t entirely comprised of rattling econoboxes with the structural solidity of the Jersey Shore cast. And the Sonic doesn’t just compete, it could be the class leader. Noise, vibration and harshness have been reduced to levels we would’ve enjoyed in the luxury set five years ago, with the combination of the chassis, suspension, tires and interior insulation all working in concert to provide a ride that’s quiet and composed, but never isolating.

What’s more: The Sonic is a truly entertaining drive.

Commands issued through the small diameter steering wheel are met with near instantaneous replies from the front wheels. Chevy was uncharacteristically committed to making the Sonic fun in the bends, and not only do the 17-inch wheels wrapped in 205/50 R17 all-season rubber hold their own, GM is making forged wheels standard across all models (15 or 16-inch), not just for performance, but to lower NVH levels.

We were continually amazed at the precision of the steering, along with the surprising lack of body roll. The suspension setup isn’t anything earth-shattering – MacPherson front struts with a torsion beam rear – but combined with the 99.4-inch wheelbase, it’s more than up to the task of handling a set of switchbacks and hunkering down into a corner. Throttle and brake modulation is easily on par with the competition, but while the stick provides short, if rubbery, throws, the clutch pedal is too light and the friction point is utterly devoid of feedback when it finally engages far into its travel. But get the stick anyway. It’s worth the minimal aggravation and shallow learning curve.

The braking hardware isn’t anything inspiring either, with 10.8-inch front discs partnered with nine-inch drums out back. How much money is saved with those rear drums? Apparently enough to make a case against discs, but considering how hard we pushed and the minimal amount of fade we experienced, they’ll easily hold up to whatever the average commuter throws at them.

So with commendable driving dynamics, a segment-leading interior, an IIHS Top Safety Pick trophy and competitive fuel economy, the only question now is whether buyers can forget the decades of neglectful compacts that GM has foisted on them in a bid to offer something – anything – in the segment. The Sonic is the first chapter in that rewritten recipe book and adds one more compelling proposition that none of the competition can match: It’s built right here in the U.S. of A at GM’s retooled Orion Township, Michigan plant. Just that alone could be enough to sway some consumers, but even if it were made on Mars using alien slave labor, the Sonic is a stand-up value with the stats and swagger to match.

Smart interface design allows drivers to take advantage of mobile communications technology while the phone remains safely stowed

If you’re looking for a higher level of in-vehicle wireless connectivity and customized infotainment options, the unmatched safety and security of OnStar® (2), look no further than the 2012 Chevrolet Volt and Equinox.

They will be the first to offer Chevrolet MyLink – an in-car infotainment package that seamlessly integrates online services like Pandora® Internet Radio and Stitcher SmartRadio® using hands-free voice and touch-screen controls via Bluetooth® (3) device connectivity for select phones.

“There is a new generation of car buyers who don’t want to settle for mass market radio,” said Rick Scheidt, vice president of Chevrolet Marketing. “They want to create their own individual stations and have access to them wherever they are. MyLink takes media personalization to a new level.”

MyLink adds stereo audio streaming and wireless control of smartphones, building on the voice-activated Bluetooth (3) hands-free calling capability already offered in most Chevrolet vehicles. MyLink also includes a seven-inch diagonal, high-resolution, full-color touch-screen display that makes media selection easy to navigate.

Among the new benefits to be provided by MyLink:

Enhanced hands-free voice control system powered by Nuance®, which allows simple voice commands to initiate phone calls and select radio stations or media from portable MP3 players and smartphones. A tap of a button on the steering wheel enables intuitive verbal control of smartphone applications like “Play (artist name)” or “Call (name of contact)” keeping your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road.

Pandora Internet Radio allows you to create personalized radio stations based on your favorite artists or genres and Stitcher SmartRadio enables access to thousands of audio programming choices, allowing you to build a personalized listening experience.

Gracenote®: Identifies the music collection on your smartphone or MP3 player and presents information such as artist name, genres and album cover art on the MyLink screen and enables you to select similar music to the tunes you love.

Upgraded USB (4) connectivity: While Chevrolet has offered auxiliary device connectivity since 2006, MyLink adds flash memory capability to its USB device connections.

The Chevrolet Volt is not a hybrid. It is a one-of-a-kind, all-electrically driven vehicle designed and engineered to operate in all climates, with a range of up to 379 miles. Powered by GM’s revolutionary Voltec propulsion system, it consists of a 16-kWh lithium-ion battery pack and electric drive unit that provide pure electric range between 25 and 50 miles, depending on terrain, driving techniques and temperature. A 1.4L gasoline-powered engine extends the range up to an additional 344 miles on a full tank of fuel by operating the vehicle’s electric drive system until the car can be plugged in and recharged or refueled. This distinguishes the Volt from electric-only vehicles, which cannot be operated when recharging is not immediately available – such as during a power interruption or on a long-distance trip.

“The Chevrolet Volt makes the electric driving experience as productive, efficient, intuitive, safe and fun as any premium vehicle its size in the market today,” said Doug Parks, Volt global vehicle line executive.

Every major element of the Volt was designed and analyzed for efficiency, including its highly aerodynamic exterior, lightweight wheels, specially designed tires, energy-saving premium stereo system, and more. This attention to detail makes the Volt one of the most aerodynamic and energy-efficient vehicles in the market.

The Volt redefines electric drive

The heart of the Chevrolet Volt is its Voltec propulsion system, which combines pure electric drive and an efficient, range-extending engine, giving to the Volt up to 379 total miles of range.

The Volt’s long-life battery consists of a 5.5-foot, 435-pound (198.1 kg) T-shaped, 16-kWh lithium-ion battery pack manufactured in Brownstown Township, Mich. It supplies energy to an advanced, 111-kW (149-hp) electric drive unit to propel the vehicle. Using only the energy stored in the battery, the Volt delivers between 25 and 50 miles of fuel- and tailpipe emissions-free electric driving, depending on terrain, driving techniques and temperature.

The Volt battery is designed to deliver value, safety, quality, performance, durability and reliability. It is covered by an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty. Since 2007, GM engineers have completed more than one million miles and four million hours of validation testing of Volt battery packs, as well as each pack’s nine modules and 288 prismatic cells. The development, validation and test teams have met thousands of specifications and validated each of the Volt battery’s 161 components, 95 percent of which GM designed and engineered.

“Our customers are making a commitment to technology that will help reduce our dependence on petroleum,” said Micky Bly, GM executive director, global electrical systems. “In turn, we commit to deliver the highest standards for value, safety, quality, performance and reliability to our customers.”

When the battery energy is depleted, the Volt seamlessly transitions to extended-range mode. Power is inverted from a technically advanced, 1.4L 63-kW (84-hp) gasoline-powered onboard engine to the electric drive unit to provide up to 344 additional miles of range.

The Volt proves electric driving can be spirited. Not only does the Volt reach a top speed of 100 mph, the electric drive unit’s excellent low speed torque of 273 lb.-ft. (368 Nm) takes it from 0 to 60 mph in less than 9.0 seconds and the quarter mile in less than 17.0 seconds.

Charging the Volt’s battery is simple and intuitive, and can be done through 120V conventional household electrical outlets, or through a dedicated 240V charging station. The vehicle is completely rechargeable in about four hours using a 240V outlet and 10 to 12 hours in a 120V outlet. Once the vehicle is plugged in, owners can schedule either immediate or delayed charges, even coordinating charging according to departure time or when electricity rates are lower. Owners also can manage and monitor the Volt remotely via computer on MyVolt.com; or an exclusive smart phone application, Chevrolet Mobile App powered by OnStar Mylink.

The Volt is designed and refined to impress

The Chevrolet Volt’s bold, sleek, performance-oriented stance conveys its electrically driven capabilities, and looks like an upscale, midsize sport sedan. This is made possible by its wide front and rear tracks (61.2 / 62.1 inches [1556 / 1578 mm]), 105.7-inch (2685 mm) wheelbase, wheels-out stance, sculpted belt line and premium execution.

“The Volt is a revolutionary car, and we wanted the design to make as sleek and dynamic a statement as possible,” said Bob Boniface, director of design. “When you look at this car, it’s very technical and refined in its execution, with lots of interrelating surfaces that bring clean, crisp edges and creases.”

Working closely with aerodynamicists in GM’s own wind tunnel to shape the Volt, design and engineering teams developed the most aerodynamic vehicle in Chevrolet’s history. By reducing the energy needed to overcome air resistance, Volt aerodynamicists contributed an estimated eight miles of electric range, and 50 miles of extended range.

The Volt’s rounded and flush front fascia, tapered corners and grille enable air to move easily around the car to reduce drag. In the rear, sharp edges and a carefully designed spoiler control air flow. An aggressive rake on the windshield and back glass also helps reduce turbulence and drag.

Inside and out, element-to-element gap and flush relationships are as good or better than any in the segment. Even the underhood compartment is not overlooked: All components are held to a high standard of appearance that harmonizes with the rest of the car, using similarly grained surfaces and colors.

The distinctive, gloss black rear liftgate appliqué carries the Chevrolet bowtie and one of two Volt insignias; the other is found on the forward quarter panel. Six exterior colors are offered on the Volt, including Viridian Joule Tricoat, the winning name chosen in a national contest held last year. The others are Silver Ice Metallic, Black and Cyber Gray Metallic, Crystal Red Metallic Tintcoat and White Diamond Tricoat.

Inside, the Volt offers the space, comfort, convenience and safety features that customers expect in a premium five-door sedan – including storage compartments and 40/40 rear-folding seats. It also delivers them in a variety of interior color, lighting and trim options unlike any offered before on a Chevrolet sedan, but with Chevrolet’s signature dual cockpit design.

Two, seven-inch, high-resolution full-color screens are featured: One is a reconfigurable graphic cluster display and the other, in the center stack, features a touch screen display, touch-control switches and integrated shifter.

The graphics in the instrument panel and door inserts are repeated in the premium cloth or available leather-appointed seats. Bright silver appointments appear around the door switches, center cup holders, door pulls, centerstack switches and climate control outlets. Standard infotainment features include:

Navigation radio with 60-GB (30 GB for music storage) hard disc drive, AM/FM/DVD-Rom/MP3 playback capability, voice recognition, Radio Data System, Bluetooth and pause-and-play radio functions

XM Satellite Radio with XM NavTraffic/Weather, one of the industry’s most advanced, real-time information systems

Premium, energy-saving Bose audio system with six speakers and subwoofer

Five years of OnStar Directions and Connections service.

In addition to enhancing safety and solidity, the Volt’s stiff structure accommodates features that help to isolate engine and wind noise for a whisper-quiet cabin.

The Volt features excellent driving dynamics

Great driving dynamics begin with a solid body-frame-integral structure that enables optimal tuning and provides drivers with an enhanced sense of stability, solidity and confident road manners.

The Volt’s MacPherson strut-type suspension, sophisticated compound crank rear axle and quick-reacting, rack-mounted electric power steering system with ZF steering gear – a feature commonly found on premium sport sedans – have been tuned to deliver a smooth, refined ride with responsive handling and solid, on-center feel. A low center of gravity combines with the wider track and long wheelbase for balanced performance, and front and rear hydraulic ride bushings, another premium addition, help eliminate road harshness.

The electro-hydraulic regenerative brake system captures energy up to 0.2g for transfer back to the battery. The friction braking system features large rotors with a special finishing process that protects against corrosion and promotes longer life.

The Volt rides on lightweight aluminum wheels that weigh only 17.8 pounds (8.1 kg) each, compared to 24.2 pounds (11 kg) for typical 17-inch wheels. They’re wrapped in Goodyear Fuel Max all-season, low-rolling resistance tires optimized for electric vehicle range, noise, feel and performance.

The Volt features Chevrolet’s continuous safety

Like all Chevrolet vehicles, the Volt helps protect occupants before, during and – thanks to OnStar – after a crash. Crash-avoidance features include standard anti-lock brakes with traction control, StabiliTrak electronic stability control and advanced, LED daytime running lamps that make the Volt more visible to other motorists and pedestrians.

Occupant protection continues with a strong structure, and the Chevrolet Volt’s body-frame-integral structure strategically blends advanced steels to help ensure crashworthiness and stiffness. Nearly 80 percent of the Volt’s overall structure consists either of high-strength, advanced high-strength or ultra high-strength steel. Active occupant protection features include eight standard air bags and safety belts with dual pretensioners to help reduce the risk of injury.

After a crash, the Chevrolet Volt offers the security of OnStar, which uses built-in vehicle sensors to automatically alert an OnStar advisor in certain types of collisions. The advisor is immediately connected to the vehicle and can request that emergency help be sent to its location.

Because the Volt operates so quietly in all-electric mode, a driver-activated feature sounds a noise to alert pedestrians, particularly those with visual impairments, in an intersection. The alert was developed in conjunction with the American Federation of the Blind.

The Volt connects with owners 24/7

There is much more technology inside the Volt than its electric propulsion system. Intuitive features such as high-resolution displays, connectivity and the ability to monitor and control vehicle functions remotely redefine how owners interface with their vehicles.

Key technologies include:

Touch-control switch system on the center console

High-resolution, seven-inch, full-color LCD reconfigurable Driver Information Center display. The display shows electric-only range, fuel economy, extended-range, trip information, tire pressure information and other key vehicle messages.

High-resolution, seven-inch, full-color, center stack-mounted touch screen display that serves as the interface for infotainment and cabin climate controls. An Efficiency (Leaf) switch accesses energy usage, power flow and charging screens – all easy to use and understand.

Charge modes are customizable according to need and electricity rates for efficient programming and lower costs.

A key fob that allows drivers to remotely start the vehicle and precondition the cabin based on outside temperatures

An exclusive mobile app, powered by an exclusive OnStar Mylink mobile app, that enables owners to engage with the Volt functions using a smart phone.

Volt warranties bring value and peace of mind

Volt owners receive outstanding battery and vehicle limited warranty coverage. In addition to the eight-year/100,000-mile limited warranty on the Volt’s 16-kWh lithium-ion battery, Chevrolet will provide:

Three-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper coverage

Five-year/100,000-mile roadside assistance and courtesy transportation

Five-year/100,000-mile limited gas engine coverage
